Toritos Mexican Food Honolulu
Feb0
I feel like this is as close as I'm gonna get to the Mexican food I got in LA. Not that I'm complaining at all. I've been here multiple times, for parties big and small, for takeout and dine in, and while one of the waitresses was kind of scarily evil (my Guy and I still make fun of her barking at us "Drink your water! Don't you ask for water and let me see your cup still full when you leave!" I've had mostly good experiences and good vibes from this place. The location is great, and the food is the yum!
I admit I'm one of those people who believes in the psych studies they've done that show people who go back and order something they liked the first time are 30% more satisfied with their meals than people who ordered something different. I figure if I loved it the first time then I'll love it just as much the second time and there's no need to try anything different. Period. From now on. And what dish do I favor oh so dearly?
THE MONSTER BURRITO! With carnitas. It's a big fat monster of a burrito with everything you could ask for slammed into into it, and then some extra slapped on top to make it a wet one. Sour cream and guac included. Oh how I love it. Plus, it's totally enough food for two people, even without the beans and rice on the side.
They also give you your prerequisite free chips and salsa. The salsa is spicy enough and fresh enough and the chips are crispy hot and fresh enough as well. I love it.
This is one of the few places in Hawaii where the Mexican food doesn't taste "healthified" or "localified" in any discernable way. It is salty and fatty and oh so very very delicious and heaping with ingredients. Just like I like. The Mexican place in Hawaii Kai and the one on Kapahulu both taste like the chef is trying to please people on a diet and watching their sodium intake. No thank you. I want flavor in my food! And Torito's delivers.
PS the Monster Burrito is under 10 dollars. STEAL!
