They are not even going to try and work with the contract and negotiate something the employees can live with, they are stalling as long as they can and hope the store closes. If the contract is put in place in rupert it sets a precident for province and for future loblaws/1518 contracts throughout B.C. They rather the store close and this contract get burried. The other no frills in B.C. are non union and are not subject to 1518, also the meat department is represented by local 247 and they actually negotioated the contract got something they were happy with and voted in favour of it. As far as this store is concered in rupert its just a "political battleground" between loblaws and 1518. Unfortunatley no one is actually looking out for the employees in this situation, niether the company or the union. Smart employees I would think would take the buy out and get the hell out of there! Remind me when no frills is hiring to keep my kids away!
