We’ve been so thrilled by the gorgeous home birthday parties we’ve been seeing lately for both kids and adults.   This one, from the Hostess With the Mostess (hwtm) blog really stood out as an adorable first birthday party idea beautifully executed.  Using Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are as a party theme, she combined purchased reusable paper decorations, homemade items and a sweet costume from Etsy. We loved the colors and the creativity involved from decorating fallen tree branches with die cut leaf decorations and pretty wrapping paper as a table runner.  She had a delicious array of kid-friendly healthy foods like cut fruits, apple sauce and popcorn balls.

10.26.09: Today is our beloved Miss Dana's birthday. During her birthday lunch earlier this afternoon, I asked Sydney how old Miss D was . . . She replied "2!" Dana was most appreciative! ;) Happy Birthday, D!10.24.09: Yesterday, both Sydney's preschool teacher and our babysitter asked if we were having another girl . . . and if we were naming her "Annie" because Syd has been talking all about Baby Annie . . . We were quick to inform them that Baby Annie is just a baby doll . . . Silly Syd.10.07.09: When you ask Sydney how old she is going to be, she replies "Two, please!" Well, sure Syd . . . you can have a birthday as long as you say please. Hehe!10.02.09: Sydney started calling me "Mom". Not "Mommy", not "Mama". Just "Mom". As in, "Good Morning, Sydney!" and she replies "Hi Mom!" I almost cried. I'm not ready to just be Mom...I thought I had a few more years of Mommy!09.03.09: We've been talking to Syd about our upcoming Labor Day trip to DC this weekend, telling her who she is going to see. "Are you going to see Boppy, Syd?" and she'll scream "Boppy! YEAH!" We've learned she is very excited to play with Boppy, Poppy, Uncle Mikey and Uncle Oren." However, when you ask Sydney if she is going to see Auntie Krissy, her face falls and she immediately says "No Kissy!" It wasn't just a one-time thing either. She does it every time. Sorry Kristin, but it is kinda funny!!09.01.09: Sydney woke up this morning, calling out "Lauuura! Lauuura! Hellooooo Lauuura!" I walked into her room and was greeted with "Hellooooo Lauuuura!" as Syd smiled this devilish little grin. "What's my name, Sydney?" "Lauuuura!" she answered. "What's my real name, Syd?" "Oooookay...Mommmmmy!"08.26.09: The biggest fan of "The Land of Syd" happens to be Syd herself. Every morning when we come downstairs, she runs up to the iMac and says "Watch Sydi mooovies, Mommy. Pwettypleasethankyoumommy!" And she just sits there, mesmerized by her little iMovies, smiling this cheesy grin, clapping her hands and cheering when the movie ends. "More Mommy. More Sydi movies mommy!"
